Our Story

We are a group of passionate snowmobile enthusiasts who know firsthand the challenges of riding in extreme winter conditions. After countless rides in sub-zero temperatures, we got sick of one particular problem: having to remove our glove at -30°F weather, take a hand off the handlebars, and try to hold up fingers to show oncoming riders how many sleds were behind us — all while steering one-handed in whiteout conditions.

That ritual is not just uncomfortable. It is dangerous. Fingers go numb in seconds at -30°F. Thick gloves make the number hard to read from even ten yards away. And when you take a hand off the bars on uneven terrain, you lose control exactly when you need it most.

We knew there had to be a better way.

The SledsBehind Origin

In 2022, during a group ride through the back trails, our founder Russ and his crew encountered the same problem for the hundredth time. A convoy came toward them. The lead rider pulled off his glove, held up fingers, and hoped the oncoming group could read the signal before both groups passed in the dark.

After the ride, sitting around the fire, the group talked about how every other powersport had evolved past hand signals. Motorcycles have LED brake lights and turn signals. Cars have daytime running lights. Even bicycles have blinking safety LEDs. But snowmobiles — traveling at 40 mph in sub-zero darkness — still relied on pantomiming numbers with bare hands.

Russ came off that mountain with one question: Why do snowmobiles still rely on hand signals in the dark?

That question became SledsBehind.

What We Built: Gesture One

SledsBehind is the first trail etiquette lighting system built specifically for snowmobiles. Our Gesture One LED Trail Communication Light is a device that mounts to any snowmobile and replaces invisible hand signals with bright LED numbers:

  • 5 Clear Signal Modes — Display 0 through 5+ riders behind the lead sled
  • Glove-Friendly Control — Oversized tactile knob operable through the thickest winter mittens
  • Dual Mounting — Handlebar and windshield hardware included
  • IPX6 Water Resistance — Built for heavy snow, slush, and spray
  • -30°F Cold Rating — Tested in real sub-zero trail conditions

The rider selects a mode with one gloved hand, the LED panel shows the number continuously, and oncoming riders see it clearly — even through snow, fog, and darkness.

The Problem We Solve

Snowmobiling is one of the most popular winter powersports in North America, with over 1.3 million registered snowmobiles in the U.S. alone. Yet visibility technology has barely evolved since the 1970s. Group rides rely on hand signals that:

  • Are invisible past about 10 yards in darkness
  • Require riders to remove gloves and expose fingers to extreme cold
  • Fail completely in whiteout and low-light conditions
  • Create dangerous lag time between signal and reaction

We are changing that — one sled at a time.

Our Mission

Make every snowmobile visible.

No rider should wonder whether the sled behind them understood the signal. No group ride should depend on whether someone could count frozen fingers at 40 yards in a snowstorm. We believe the snowmobile industry is overdue for the same lighting standards that motorcycles and ATVs have had for decades.

SledsBehind is not just a product. It is a movement toward safer trails, stronger group coordination, and better nights on the mountain.

Built for Riders, by Riders

Every SledsBehind product is tested on real trails in real conditions. Our team includes active snowmobile enthusiasts, former powersports mechanics, and winter safety advocates. We do not ship anything we would not mount on our own sleds.
